Are Your Bay Area Wood Floors Ready to Shine?

You recently bought a new residence, and you would like to tear out the old fashioned carpets (or grout and tile ) and expose the hardwood flooring underneath. Or maybe you would like to restore or update your parent's old house in preparation available. Whatever the case, below are some clever rules of thumb to remember.

What happened to your carpeting (and flooring ) before the recovery process will radically dictate the approaches you need to follow. Maybe the former owner laid the wood flooring loosely or just attached the rugs on the borders. Or perhaps the proprietor sloppily glued the rug within the timber.

The first step is clear: remove the old carpet and any remaining"junk," such as nails, glue, adhesive, etc.. In case the previous owner did utilize carpet glue, you might need to refinish the floor by sanding down the residue or utilizing an adhesive remover. If the old owner nailed the carpeting, you will need to fill in the nail holes.

Be aware: lots of old hardwood flooring can't withstand tough remediation techniques, such as sanding. The floors might be too old, brittle, warped, or otherwise corrupted. This is the best situation for our "No-Sanding" Refinish Process we prefer to phone RX for Wood Floors.

You also had to scan (and possibly manage) water damage, mildew and mould damage, and pest and pest infestations.

A easy restoration job may turn out to be anything but. As an example, the wood might look normal on top; under, but it may be corroded or sterile.
There is no doubt that classic and reclaimed wood floors are floor options which are becoming increasingly more popular as time goes by. With a growing number of people seeking design or style options with a story to tell or a legacy behind them, antique and reclaimed wood flooring appears to be able to tick all their boxes. Without question, classic and reclaimed wood flooring are both genuinely authentic flooring options that come with a warranty of no environmental footprint (very important to people with a strong"eco" conscience) and frequently having the added allure of a small story to tell.

The validity and aesthetic appeal of antique and reclaimed wood flooring are definitely two of the choice's strongest points. Sought after for their own look and heritage, on the downside, particular styles of classic and reclaimed wood flooring can prove extremely hard to track down and will also often give rise to installation challenges.

Although there are many flooring reclamation specialists offering a fantastic range of alternatives in both antique and reclaimed wood floors, in case you have a specific kind of flooring in your mind, you might be in for a long wait or a extensive search. What's more, due to the simple laws of supply and demand, together with this choice's sought after nature, you must expect to pay more to get either antique or stained flooring than you'd for similar quality fresh flooring.

It's easy to understand why antique and reclaimed wood floors is popular, but to tell the truth, this option leaves many individuals trying hard to find exactly what they're searching for. Moreover, occasionally when they dothey find their dream solution would be so far outside their budget they are made to have a re-think.

If you're looking for an antique or reclaimed wooden floor and are being blocked either because you can not find what you're looking for, or your budget won't stretch to fulfilling your floors dreams, an alternative may be to consider new wood flooring that has been aged and, or even distressed. Aged and, or distressed flooring is fresh floors that has been (artificially) made to take on exactly the exact same appearance or look of a classic or reclaimed hardwood flooring. In fact, ageing and distressing methods now are so good, that if you shop around carefully, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this alternative and the real thing.
Can you just have hardwood floors installed and are currently wondering how the best way to care and preserve them? Or did you move into a home that has hardwood throughout and you also would like to keep them looking new for years to come?

In this post, we'll discuss some preventative strategies for maintaining your hardwood flooring, minimize scratching, and wear of the finish. Hardwood floors are timeless rather than going out of style anytime soon. One of the incredible advantages of hardwood floors is that it lasts a lifetime and then some. We have refinished floors which were over a century old- but not necessarily in the best state- but certainly nothing a good sanding and refinishing couldn't fix. Once sanded, the floors were restored and beautiful.

Hardwood isn't as fragile to maintain as many claim it to be. The most crucial thing in maintaining
hardwood floors is the indoor home environment. Keeping your home surroundings consistent is a vital factor in keeping your hardwood flooring. Wood is hydroscopic. It requires humidity or lack of it to contract and expand. Wood floors expand and contract naturally particularly during warm and humid months and cold and dry winter season. However, too much drastic shift in humidity and temperature may have adverse affects on your flooring. While its ordinary for wood to move(i.e. extend and contract), as it happens under drastic circumstances, such as too much moisture in the atmosphere, your flooring can buckle. Or if it's too cold and dry, your floors will contract leaving openings and spacing at the seams. Your floors will typically remedy themselves once the environment changes, but prolonged exposure to such events can finally ruin the timber.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7436871077020926376.post-87299617378470441112017-10-10T03:22:00.002-07:002017-10-10T03:22:28.485-07:00What is a lacquered finish?

A lacquer is usually a polyurethane coating applied to a wooden flooring. It covers the pores of the wood floor and forms a hard, robust coating which effect like a protective shield for the wood from dirt and moisture. The difference between it and oil is that it sits on the top of the wood, it doesn’t sink in like oil. Lacquers should provide several years of protection for your floor, depending on the foot traffic.

Lacquered floors are really easy to care. You can keep them clean with just a broom, vacuum cleaner or micro-fibre mop and wipe the dust away. As with oil, lacquer also comes with a selection of finishes, such as gloss, matt, silk matt and extra matt. A lacquer finish is great for rooms where you anticipate a high foot traffic and you want a glossy finish. It’s important to remember that it’s water resistant, not a fully waterproof! Nowadays lacquer is available in every sheen level, similarly to oil, making it hard to tell the difference between the two finishes.

Lacquer from other side have the trend to show scratches easier than an oiled surface, and this is making it less ideal for pets, but this is easily fixed with a simple sanding and refinishing. Lacquer is the toughest of the finishes available, used commonly in dance studios, gyms and village halls. It can take a lot more punishment than oil, but due to sitting on the surface rather than seeping in, the floor underneath can become vulnerable to damage again once this has worn away. One of the top benefits about lacquer finished wood flooring is spills, if they’re cleared up reasonably quickly they won’t cause damage to your floor by seeping in!

Lacquer floor is an investment that will bring a new life of your home or office!
Solid wood flooring is a solid piece of wood from the top to the bottom. The thickness varies from ¾” to 5/16”. Those wood floors can be installed both above and on grade, and they can be sanded and refinished during its service life.

Engineered wood floors from other side are also real wood floors made by using multiple wood or wood composite veneers. The veneers can be from the same or from different wood species. It have a great stability because the grain of each veneer runs in different direction. This mean that the wood will resist expanding and contracting during fluctuations in humidity and temperature which is really making it wide usable. This type of flooring can also be sanded and refinished and it can be installed above, on or below grade.
-Prep your floor for cleaning by sweeping or dust-mopping to get rid of large particles of dirt and debris.
-Use a pH neutral cleaner that will be gentle on your hardwood floors.
-Use a fine spray mist to clean your floor in sections. Avoid putting too much liquid on your floors.
-Use a microfiber mop to clean. Traditional mops can work, but they can leave excess water on your floors.
-Skip using white vinegar and water to clean your floors. Using a specially formulated hardwood floor care cleaner is a smart way to maintain the beauty and look of your floors.
Wooden floors are the most solid and classic material in each home this days. The elegance that wooden floors are showing us and keeping the fact that it last for many decades is making wood flooring an attractive for informed house owners!

If you have a hardwood flooring, you can refinish it and bring back the in it sparkle again!
Wood as a material base is a porous and vulnerable. Many people today usually choose to help their floors last longer as protecting them against moisture with sanding. A simple test to find out your floor condition is to place a drop of water on it- if the drop isn’t absorbed, or takes a few minutes to soak in,this mean that your wooden floor may be in good shape, but in case the drop soaks in immediately- this mean that it is time for renovation !

1. Quebracho - From the Spanish “quebrar hacha,” which literally means
“axe breaker.” Aptly named, wood in the Schinopsis genus is among the
heaviest and hardest in the world.
2. Lignum Vitae -Widely accepted as the hardest wood in the world–this
wood has been listed as an endangered species and is listed in CITES.
Consider Verawood as a very close substitute.
3. Gidgee - This Australian endemic is both very heavy and very strong.
Some pieces are dark enough to be used as an ebony substitute: one that’s
even harder than the original article.
4. Snakewood - It’s easy to see what makes Snakewood so unique–its patterns
and markings resemble the skin of a snake. Limited supply and high demand
make this one of the most expensive woods on eart.
5. Verawood - Sometimes called Argentine Lignum Vitae, this wood is a gem:
inexpensive, great olive-green color, beautiful feathery grain pattern, and
it takes a great natural polish on the lathe.
6. Camelthorn - Formerly classified as a member of the Acacia genus, this
south African hardwood is a tough customer. The wood is stubbornly hard,
and the tree is protected by giant sharp thorns.
7. African Blackwood - In some parts of the world, this wood has achieved
an almost legendary status. Historical evidence points to this wood
(rather than Diospyros spp.) being the original “ebony.”
8. Black Ironwood - Pieces are very seldom seen for sale, as this tree is
too small to produce commercially viable lumber. Like the unrelated
Desert Ironwood, Black Ironwood is an excellent choice for small
turning projects.
9. Katalox / Wamara - Some pieces can be just about a dark as true ebony,
while others are a more reddish brown with black streaks. So much depth
in the Swartzia genus, there’s something for everyone!
10. Cebil- Also known as Curupay or by the exaggerated name Patagonian
Rosewood, Cebil is not a true rosewood. It has a highly variable streaked
appearance not too unlike Goncalo Alves.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7436871077020926376.post-12537503616171748802016-12-21T07:15:00.001-08:002016-12-21T07:15:01.551-08:00Floor Sanding BarnesUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0
